Over 50 years
of American Design, Dependability and Dedication
Starting out in 1968 as Herco, Inc., Harold Rivers and Gary Dyer saw a niche market in V-Grooving for the speaker cabinet industry. Founded in Newcomerstown, Ohio, the main market thrust was manufacturing a premium custom V-Grooving Tool for both cross and lineal V Grooving. Designing multiple stacked sets for creating profiles which could be folded over and glued became the challenge and stepping stone to the introduction of tooling for creating shapes in other industries.
1968
In December of 1993, a new company was formed by the Dyer family, 3-D Diamond Tooling. In a new 20,000 square foot facility, the company began designing, manufacturing and service / sharpening PCD Diamond Tooling for the wood industry. The focus has always remained rooted on quality through the careful planning and acquisition of the most technologically advanced equipment available. Eventually, both companies combined under one roof, forming the Herco and 3-D Diamond Cutting Tool Company with Gary Dyer as President. Through constant upgrading with vision on continued substantial growth, the companies grew to become the leader in tight tolerance, precision-based tooling. With ears constantly tuned to the requirements and desires of the industries served, the company discovered another niche market for precision insert style tooling. Additional state of the art equipment was purchased suitable to achieve above industry tolerances, and a new product line was introduced; Insert Tooling.
1993
In January of 2008, the Herco and 3-D Diamond Cutting Tools companies merged to create the H3D Tool Corporation. After thorough evaluation of many suppliers and manufacturers, the product offerings from the company were enhanced again to include commodity items such as saw blades, spiral routers, tool holders, collets and other tooling / tool related supplies. These items along with the precision, custom tooling manufactured in Newcomerstown, continued to grow the company even in times in which the industry was in turmoil.
2008
Looking for representation in the Southeast, H3D Tool acquired CST (Carolina Specialty Tools) expanding their status as the leading custom woodworking cutting tool manufacturer in the United States. The purchase added a new manufacturing facility, 4 PCD erosion machines, 2 insert grinders, and many years of cutting tool expertise among several other elements into the company’s expanding business.
2012
H3D Tool Corp acquired Terminus Technologies in an effort to further expand its offerings of quality woodworking tools. Terminus is well known throughout the industry for its high quality, tight tolerance and blue “Quick Change” cutterheads in the planing and jointing arena. All manufacturing and engineering have been proudly moved to the United States since the acquisition.
2017
Just 2 years after the purchase of CST, the H3D division in NC outgrew its current facility and moved into a building more than doubling its size. Still in Connelly Springs, NC, this new facility offers generous room for growth and further expansion
2014
Further expanding its offerings in planing and jointing cutterheads, H3D Tool Corp acquires HelixHead from Hermance Machine Company. HelixHead is an alternative to OEM planing and jointing heads using standard 4 sided inserts to create a true shear design to reduce noise and labor needed to change or sharpen older style cutterheads.
2022
In a slight deviation from the woodworking industry, H3D Tool acquired Simon Ellis, a metalworking insert company out of Dayton, OH. Simon Ellis has a niche market on rebuilds and repairs in the hard turnings and plastics industry for ISO/ANSI inserts custom ground in PCD, CBN and CVD along with boring bars. All machines and many veteran employees were moved down to the Connelly Springs, NC facility where the product lines and offerings continue to grow and improve.
